George Washington Inaugural Bible - North Texas Exhibition
June 28-29, 2008
The North Texas Masonic Historical Museum & Library invites you to experience a unique American and Masonic Treasure. For the first time ever, the George Washington Inaugural Bible will be in North Texas on the weekend of June 28, 2008. This King James Bible, on loan from St. John’s Lodge No. 1 of New York, is the Bible that George Washington placed his hand upon while taking his Presidential oath of office in 1789. This Bible was also chosen by Presidents Warren G. Harding, Dwight D. Eisenhower, James E. Carter, and George H.W. Bush, and it was also utilized at the dedication of the Washington Memorial and the cornerstone ceremonies for the White House, the U.S. Capitol, and the Statue of Liberty.
On June 28 and 29 you will have three opportunities to discover the incredible American history of this Bible, hear the stories of the Bible’s central role to some of the most important events in American history, and witness this national treasure for yourself. On Saturday afternoon, June 28, there will be a public viewing with displays and information about the Bible’s history, and the President’s who have used it. Saturday evening we will host a private dinner with the Bible for sponsors (of at least Bronze Level) to see it up close, discuss its history with the Bible historian, and take pictures with it. Finally, on Sunday afternoon, June 29, the Gala Exhibition and banquet will feature an account of the Bible’s history and a presentation of George Washington’s effect upon the Office of the Presidency. Lunch will be served. The Bible will be available for photographs and an auction including George Washington memorabilia and certified Heritage Plants from the Mount Vernon Estate will be held.
These special events have been created to benefit the North Texas Masonic Historical Museum & Library, a 501(c)(3) public charity whose goal is to collect, display, and educate Masons and the public about Masonic history. All donations are tax-deductible.
